I am wondering what the color (matte or gloss black) is for damascus. I am also wondering if the lacquer is sprayed on after normal etching, or does it take the place of normal etching? Finally, do some people use the matte clear lacquer to protect an existing etch? And anything else you think I should know about this product.

Thanks,

John

Gloss black. The matte stuff makes things look really cheesy. The sequence of events for it's use are....
1. Deeper than normal etch (to where you can feel the topography with your fingertip)
2. Ensure you neutralize the etch (I soak in saturated TSP solution for about 5 min)
3. ABSOULUTLEY clean blade (clean with acetone or such, no oils or dirt left)
4. Spray on a light coat and allow to dry for 30 mins.
5. Bake at 352-350 F for AT LEAST 30 mins.
6. Allow to cool and lightly sand with 400 to remove laquer from the high areas of the etched blade.
7. Go over lightly with 1200 grit to polish the highs.
8. clean blade again, and oil or wax (I perfer to use a good coat of caranuba type wax)
YOUR DONE!

Perfect. Thanks. One of these days I'll even have a digital camera and be able to show all of you how much you are helping me.
