As I said in another thread, recently I did my first successful multi-core composite pattern. I refined my technique on welding the patterned bars to each other. So I figure it’s time try the simple mosaic pattern I came up with again. Now this won’t involve a press and powdered metal. It’s a something I can do with just my 3-pound hammer.
I plan on revisiting this pattern that wasn't successful last year.

The material is 1084 and 15N20. The 1084 well the last of my 1084 before I could no longer get any from Admiral. I cut the pieces for this project some time ago.
I plan on starting with much more steel this time. So my starting stack of steel is two inches across and high, before I start to weld the first billets. Last time I started with about half that much steel. So when I did my final assembly welds I only had about a one by one inch bar. As a result I may not have worked it enough to properly set the welds. I figure starting with four one by one stacks I should be able to really work the welds and still end up with an inch and quarter finished bar.
I should be welding up the four initial billets this weekend (after I do a holiday fair on Saturday, how special….not!). So with a little luck I’ll have the first batch of photo ready to post on Monday.
