Hi All!
Well, made it back into Great Falls last night around 9pm. Only took us 22 hours of travel time (the jet lag is really kicking my butt) They were nice enough to let me take today off, so once I get re-oriented to where I'm at, things should be good to go.
Had a great time over in Germany (at least the smithing part of the trip). Cyrus picked me up last monday morning, and we visited the shop of one of his friends. Really nice place. It took me a bit to get used to the coal forges, but not too long. We spent the day forging, talking steel and cutlery, and basically comparing notes. It was the highlight of my trip!
Now that I'm back, let's get cranked up and going! Hunting season is just around the corner! My lab is sitting in the back yard as I write this, watching the ducks fly over and licking her chops!
Let the knife talk begin!!!!!!

Ron,
I left you some "textbook" heat treat info for A2 over in... u-m-m-m... whatever forum that was that you asked about it. Ed may have some better advice. I just copied some spec sheet type of data. I don't do much with air-quench steels.

Glad to see you back Ed. Sounds like you had some fun with the forging anyway. I posted a pic in the display case of a new style for me take a look and let me know what you think. Thanks

Glad your back.

I travelled a LOT last year and hated it. Would have made a lot more knives if I had been home. Sometimes my real job messes up my fun job.

Stay put for a while will ya.

Hi my friend,
Hope you had a save trip back home. Once again Uli and I want to say that it was a cracking day forging with you. I will send you a bunch of pictures by e-mail and if you like you can put them into the forum. Hope that you got the steel that I send you to Spang. Let us know if there is a hammerin next spring we might come over.
Take care

Cyrus (ABS apprentice)
