For the guys that make slip joints how do you attach your scales to brass or steel liners? I can epoxy scales to a knife handle and to whatever else and it will stick. Everytime i epoxy or acraglass to a thing metal for liners or spacers with very little effort I can make them come apart. Ihave even gone to the exent of drilling holes through the metal so that the epoxy will press to the other side. Or do ya'll just peen pins in the scales? I'm just not sure how much I trust peening with the possibility of breaking the scales. I used the search method and all I come up with is gluing scales to liners. Do some of ya'll use super glue? Any help would be appreciated.

i've never made a slip joint but i've made a couple of lock backs so i assume the same will work. i peen pins and epoxy. thats on thin brass liners with wood scales. it seems to work quite wekll for me

It's necessary to use peened pins or screws in addition to epoxy. On a small slipjoint, use very small brass or stainless wire for the pins. It's safer to use brass because the heads peen over easily.

Sorry it took a day or so guys, but thanks for the comments. I will be using peened pins (303 ss) to match the bolsters, but I can't use epoxy for some reason I can't get epoxy to hold long enough or at all on the thin metal to put the knife together. I used super glue and that seems to be working, I just don't know if it's kosher to do so. Thanks for the time and help.

Good subject and while we are here; do you need to relieve the scale for the head or mushroom the head? Do you use a spinner on the head to finish it off?
