Are there any updates in regards to the club? Since I paid my membership close to a year ago (I think), I've seen a couple of newsletters, and one or two notices all about the voting. Is there anything I can be doing to help things along? Don't know what it would be, but would like to see some activity in the club. Maybe someone has news about the SOS, or the Austin show? Could I write something for the newsletter? Johnny, are you having your hammerin this fall, and if so, when and who's on your roster to demonstrate?
Have there been any meetings? I may have missed the notices.

Hi Robert. Not a lot going on right now except behind the scenes. We have our new website up and running at http://www.tkca.org. All members can have a presence there by posting pictures, as well as providing a biography of themselves and their work. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this, it's free to all members, part of what you are getting for your annual dues. The 2nd quarter newsletter is due out any day now, we're always needing articles, events, shop tours and pictures, tools tips, etc., to be included. We're recruiting members to be Field Editors to submit on a regular basis.

Chester Darcey is completing a new project. It's a TKCA flyer, similar to many of the show flyers you've probably seen, that will have knife pictures, as well as some event pictures, (SOS Show, Blade Show, Central Texas Knife Show) where TKCA members have a high presence, as well as general information about our organization. This will be used to give to the public to solicite new members as well as inform and educate on what we do and what we are about.

Ken Linton is working on a project to devide the membership by geograpical regions in the state to get regular updates and input as to what is going on "knife wise" in their area. Each board member will have 25-30 members that can channel their information through to be published in the newsletter, or added to the website.

The Texas and Knifemakers and Collectors forum here on The Knife Network is looking for a moderator. Not really to act as a moderator to moderate the content, but to try to increase to avtivity here from the membership instead of it being spread to many of the different forums. Anyone can contact me direct if you are interested and we'll discuss the details.

The 1st general membership meeting will be at the Austin Show on July 30, time and place to be deternined later. The next general membeership meeting will be at the SOS show in Grapevine on Sept. 30, time and place to be announced.

The Fall Hammer-In & Knifemakers Rendezvous is scheduled for Sept. 24-25, here in New Braunfels. I'm still putting togeter the schedule of events and iinstructors. Anything you'd want to see presented drop me a note and I'll try to get to worked in.

Thanks Johnny! I'm happy to see so much going on, I didn't realize it.
Stop by again next time you're in Uvalde and we'll talk some more about the club. I'm not the man for a moderator, should be one of the officers.

Hi Robert,

I wrote a review of one of the hammer-ins for the newsletter and found it a very rewarding and easy process. Pat is a great editor and very easy to work with by email. If you have any inclination to write something, please do so! You never know what a difference it may make. Someone like yourself is bound to have a lot to offer. Personally I'd love to hear any shop tips you have, especially about working with wood. And I know you could write a great article on mesquite, which would be perfect (IMO) for the TKCA. Those are just a couple that come to my mind, but I'm sure whatever you care to write would be well received. I know I love to read anything even remotely connected to knives and knife making.

If you're thinking about coming out to the fall hammer-in, I heartily recommend it! I have been to two so far (the last two) and both were absolutely out of sight. You get to learn a whole lot, but one of my favorite parts is just getting to know a lot of outstanding folks.

One thing that keeps coming to my mind is how valuable it would be for a collector to come out to a hammer-in, but I digress.

Write something up and give it a whirl! I bet it will be great!
