Can you obtain a Katana Curve using oil? My Damasus is 5160 1095 & 203E. I'm pretty sure water is a NoNo with these steels. Plan to put clay back on, but I sure don't want a downward curve. Will the interrupted quench work?

Hey Guys, any ideas how to do this with oil?

I would forge the curve in it before heat treating.I`ve made several and never used damascus. Robert

I was kind of leaning that way. Thanks Robert.

Water makes steel curve up, oil down, so if you want a curve in your blade and quench in oil as you should with 5160, you have no choice but to forge it in. also 5160 will not have any benefit from a clay coat as far as looks go if thats your reason for clay coating.
