Well thanks to Robert Hensarling, I got some Satanite today so I can try my hand at making a hamon on some of my knives. I was going to wait until Friday when it's not supposed to rain. Yeah, that didn't happen. So I gave it a go. Using KN member Jason Cutter's technique I gave it a shot. Here's what I can up with on one of two blades I did today.

So does it look right? I'm not real sure. I was in such a hurry tonight I didn't give the blade the propper hand rubbed finish. Plus I only etched it for a couple minutes if that. Now isn't there supposed to be more color in the hamon? Will that show up if I finish the blade correctly? Did I screw it up? What do you guys think?

P.S.: This blade is not done yet by any means!

It looks like you nailed it to me. If you go back and start at 220 grit wet or dry paper and work your way up to 1200 grit being sure to remove all pf the scatches from the previous grit you should get a very nice looking blade with a well defined hamon. oh yeh make sure and use it wet. I like windex.

Yup, what Bill said. The finer the finish you put on there the better it will look. From those photos it's there alright!
