I don't know any online how-to, but good source for damascus patterns and how to make is a books "The Complete Bladesmith" & "The Pattern-welded Blade" by Jim Hrisoulas. A online source for pattern-welding would be a great help for beginners. How ever - when you look closely you will find out there is a few basic ways and many variations.
