what is the intended purpous if having two detents in the blade of a liner lock?
my friend has a knife the has this feature one is in the normal spot that activates when the blade is closed. and the other is located so that it activates when the blade is half way open.
the only resons that i can think of is
1- that this knife could almost never be classifide as an auto. becaus the second detent efectivly slows or stops the knife from being fully deployed with the flip of a wrist or" gravity"
2- that the second detent is there to extend the life of the stop pin by slowing the blade down or stoping it when you whip/flip the blade out.

what do you guys think?

I think you're assessment of the reason that knife was made that way is brilliant! I doubt I ever would have thought of those reasons but the make very good sense to me. The half open detent couldn't possibly be strong enough to hold the blade for any purpose of using it in that position. I think reason #1 is especially appropriate.

I have seen two detent balls used to increase the hold in the closed position but never seen one used as you described.....

yea the only thing he seems to use it for is cleaning under his finger nails  lol he say that the position of the knife at half open is perfect for this type of heavy use :p
and the detent has just enff hold.
but serisly
i cant see any other function then those. by the way this was the first time ive seen 2 detents done like this as well
this was a kit and i made 2 of them and both had it o it was no mistake. i did some reserch and found a post in another forum and it was called a "half stop" the guy who started the thredd said that he had seen them on other knives like the cold steel Voyager.
once you get used to it you can snap it open any way. but it does seem to slow it down
