View Full Version : New blades - Old Gaucho Style
I found this website with reproductions of old gaucho style knives and sheaths. I bet the blades are not very good, but the metalwork on some of the sheaths, and leather work in most of them, is very very accurate to what we were used to see in antiques. Worth taking a look if you are into the style.

J.Arthur Loose 03-02-2005, 04:40 PM Those are nice, Jeff. I definitely like the silverwork.
SharpByCoop 03-02-2005, 05:04 PM Very nice website, Jeff. I've been ogling these knives for a while and it's nice to see some more handmade versions. I may inquire further. If I do, you will know all about it.

Hey... it would be nice if someone would still learn this kind of work, but in Brazil I know none that is working like this. Maybe someone looking for it must go to Buenos Aires, Argentina to get it.
Coop, let me know if you find something out. Thanks!
SharpByCoop 03-17-2005, 06:22 AM Jeff,
I just sent them another email with a query on pricing. The first went unanswered. The site has NO pricing whatsoever.
Maybe you could send them a short query on how to obtain and pay note also? It's possible the English complications may be too much. I don't know.
Coop
Coop,
their site lists two e-mail adresses. I wrote them in through the two, in a poor excuse of spanish laguage they might understand. I asked for prices and payment options and mentioned there is someone interested in the USA.
If I get anything I will get back to the thread.

SharpByCoop 03-17-2005, 12:22 PM Truly fine work, no matter who is producing it. I'll stay posted.
Thanks!
Coop
I found this today. The names and classifications match and some are new to me. Illustrations are very precise and accurate. Those are the Gaucho dressing styles, the traditional way.

Dario Mohamed 04-14-2005, 11:12 AM I hope to make me understand since I use the translator of google.
That it is what they look for, to buy or information of these knives. If it is to buy I say to him that I have stock of beautiful pieces of different styles from knives of Gauchos, I can send photo of them and inform the values if it interests to them.
These knives are not pieces of adornments, are true knives of gauchos with works in silver.
Greetings
Dario Mohamed

Guys,
Here is a free translation from the message Mr. Dario Mohammed has sent us:
Before anything else, nice to meet you Jeff,
I would like to say that i live 30 km from the capital city and if I can be of any help, I would do that gladly. Another thing is that, if we are searching knives made in Argentina of the criollo "gaucho" kind I can send you pictures and prices of some, those knives are not for showing but are true knives that are used by the owners on the field or when they dress up for parties.
Thanks
Dario
J.Arthur Loose 04-15-2005, 02:14 PM Must be great parties! ;)
Yeah they are acctualy etnical parties. Like a rodeo, because gauchos are cawboys by nature. We get together in characteristic dressing and dance typical dances, have typical barbecue and show lace, horse riding, bull riding, and all sorts of stuff. Itīs really fun cause our cawboy culture has more then 300 years, back when the land was being first colonized. I cannot tell about Argentinaīs history, but the south of Brazil (Argentina frontier) has strong catle activity for more tha 250 years, and then the gaucho would ride north during the winter to sell the catle to the more developed areas of the country. Southern Brazil was called back then Brazilīs Barn, cause all the meat of the country came from there... and still up to today most of it comes from there.
