Hey Guys,

I only got about half of my blade hardened, and I need to re-do it, :o
do I have to aneal it before trying again? I'm useing O-1.

Thanks for any help!
:)

Yes it would be better if you annealed . But before you do figure out why you got only half the blade hardened.

Thanks, I know why I only got half- I've been doing my heating with a propane torch,
it will get hot enough to do small blades, but not enough to get a large area hot all at the same time. So only part of the blade was high enough when I quenched. :o

I think I'll have better luck now; bought a small Oxy-acetylene rig tonight, will get it running tomorro and see what happens.

That is ok as long it is the bottom (edge) half that hardened. (Just being a smarty pants)

Whoa! this is great! in under a minute(more like 45 seconds) I can get the whole knife up to critical temp! (1/8"x3/4"x~6" O1). I have to be careful not to get it too hot now.

hammerdownnow; :lol

I had actualy tried to do edge quenches on purpose before, but found it too hard to heat just the edge with the rest of the knife drawing the heat away.

Remember, you can heat the whole blade and just quench the edge. Lots of people edge quench O1 to try for that cool hamon line thing. Glad you got some good heat going. It is good to hear of people having fun.
