I'm trying to find a source for some thin, low carbon stock to weld up with some bandsaw blades. At about 1/16, all I can find is 16 ga sheet metal, nothing in strips. Local places wouldn't "shear" it for me, saying its too thin, Ended up bandsawing strips. Any better approaches to cutting or sources for thin strips about 1 1/4 wide? Thanks for the help.

J : try a sheet metal shop or a heating/air conditioning shop ! They shear thin stock all the time to make up ductwork and the like. Ironbasher

Thanks, that's what I thought, too. The major sheet metal shop I went to said no, the width was a problem for the shear. They referred me to Cohen Steel. They had 16 ga 2'X4' pieces at a reasonable price but wouldnt cut it into strips. Admiral will only sell 15n20 in 8"X12" @ (I think) $8.06 a foot. Maybe I should try a smaller shop. My problem is that there's just none nearby, and I do better going and standing at a counter than talking on the phone.

If your looking for low carbon welding steel, I found some on Ebay a couple of months ago...it was about 1/8" x 1.5" x 36. You might try contacting Kelly Cupples, he was able to cut the steel (15N20) to exactly the width I needed, he may be able to help you. Here's his address octihunter@charter.net He was an absolute pleasure to deal with! I picked up a bunch of 1095, 5160, 1084, 15N20, O1, plus some other stuff for about $100 and he covered shipping if order is over $25 bucks!
