I need some info regarding making a damascuc billitt. I have read that you can use old chian saw chains, but i was wondering if i could possibly use a double roller timing chain out of an engine. Heck i figure that if these chains can withstand high temps. at over 200 thousand RPM's for over 100 thousand miles they might (in my opinion ) make a good blade. The flats, rollers, and the pins appear to be all of different metal but not sure. Any info on this will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You in advance for the help.

Roller chain makes some very good damascus and the pattern is beautiful. Generally the pins are high nickel content which makes for very shiny areas in the patterning. Try it - you will like it.

Bill I just aquired a bunch of these myself, Im wondering which method you prefer. Roll it up like a lolly pop, or squish with the chain stacked lengthwise.

Im dying to try this!!

Thanks and God Bless

The only way I have used chain is to layer it up. Now you have me thinking Mike - I will have to try it rolled up next time to see how the pattern will differ.
