Help!!!

I have been trying to make a W pattern billet and Its not doing what I want it to do!

I started with a 16 layer billet of 1084/15N20/1095/5160

welded and stretched to @ 12" long then cut across the edge of the billet and folded. Did this procedure 6 times. After reading the other W pattern thread, I decided to cut the bar down the middle then weld togather what was originaly the outside of the billet. Basicly turned the bar inside out. I was hoping this would give me a "Firestorm" type pattern. But no luck. I can see the pattern in the end of the billet, but the top is kind of a random looking pattern, and the sides are almost straight lines.

Any clue what I did wrong??

Is ther a way to get the "firestorm" pattern out without accordian cutting the bar?

If you guys would take a look at the picks and give me your input.

Mike you are going to have to open the billet via accordian cutting to be able to get the pattern on the outside of the billet. That is the only way I know to do it.

Mike,

In order to get the "flame" from the "W's" pattern you need to twist the billet. After that, you can simply flatten it or you can cut it down the middle and open it up. Twisting is the key.

Mike,

Yahoo is one of those infernal sites that won't allow their fotos to be linked to. I had the same problem when SBC tied up with Yahoo for the ISP. I ended up buying a fotopoint account, but you can use the gallery here to post to and then link to that.

Good luck. BTW, you can always tile that billet and reweld it in pieces with the end face out if you don't want to accordian cut it.

Hey you ol' Arkansas hillbilly, that site won't open up for me. You could always do what this ol'missouri hillbilly does, I throw the darn billet on the ground and stomp the inside out of it. :lol Then forge to shape. If you would bring it up here we would get it turned inside out some how.

If you really think there is something wrong with it you could always send it to me for "dispozal"

I think it looks really cool. Wish I had the time to try to make one. Been doing the headless chicken dance lately and have had NO forge time.

Well I think I won, but the decision is still out!

I took some sage advise and cut the billet into 3/4 cubes and welded them togather, then sandwiched between to bars, still working with the pics, hope to post them soon!

God Bless

Thanks Shane!
And yes Mike, Id did save it, just wish there was more of it!
Ive got 2 billets tacked togather, going to try and make one BIG w's Pattern billet!
You think if I weld the 2 billets edge to edge it will make a diffrence?

Thanks again and God Bless
