...the dirty work? I am in the middle of profiling and drilling a bunch of blades. Yuck. Folder blades are so nice, though. Two holes and they are out the door.

I know what you mean!! Just got 19 ready to go to heat treat today. Lost 15 days waiting on belts! Oh well, now the fun stuff!

well..not really. I am preparing to make 40-50 blades in the near future...no what I hate is spending hours handrubbing....but the result is so nice that it is worth it...

Hafta' agree with Jens. Profiling beats hand rubbing every time.

I was just saying on the PalTalk forum last night that the fun part of knife making for me is design, and what comes after heat treat. The profiling, drilling, and grinding is real grunt work, but ya gotta do it to get to the good stuff.

By the way, I'll be hollow grinding all day today. Sigh.

Yup, it's the finishing... I usually grind to 180 or 220 and do the rest by hand.

Really gets to me after heat-treating when it's already been done once....

But I'm about to finish those salt tanks... :smokin:

Satin finishing is tedious, but it doesn't bother me as much because it is not as messy, and at that point, the knife starts to actually look like a knife. To me, it is the cross over point where life is breathed into the steel.

Oh man, you stock removal guys are really sooooo sensitive. Ever tried forging? Real blacksmithing? You never again will name that bit of grinding dust dirty work again.

The blacksmithing and damascus making are the fun parts!

...and I make damascus on a treadle hammer!

As for the dirt... I took the coal forge out of the basement.
