Something just happened that I am very happy about and would like to know if this impresses others as much as it does me.
Mike Connor found a bargain ($40 each) on some 100# propane tanks and bought two of an available five. He commented on his good fortune in Geno's tool forum.
Then I, being the bargain hunter I am posted a reply asking Mike to get me two of them. Mike got me two and we met and I got them. This sounds pretty simple but here is the impressive part to me.
I have never met Mike before, never talked to him on the phone before. We have only communicated on this forum and a few private e-mails. But he went to a place he did not plan to go to, spent $80 of HIS cash because I asked him to, loaded the tanks up and brought them to town and delivered them to me. All because some guy he did not know asked him to in a message from "Computer World".
I think this is a good example of the quality of people we have here at the CKD.
Now, on my end of things, when Mike pulled up we shook hands and I handed him the cash. My goal was to repay him immediately to get his money back into his wallet. We moved the tanks from his truck to mine and then I bought him lunch (just a hamburger) but it was the least I could do.
My wife thinks Mike was kinda nuts for doing all of this for someone he never met and usually I would tend to agree but this forum has made friends out of many people. I know that if I get a chance to help another, I will do it if I am able.
Mike also bought the fifth bottle when he got my two. Why? Just in case someone else wants a good deal. The bottle is for sale "AT COST" in the CKD Classifieds: Buy/Sell/Trade forum. These bottles are $90 to $120 new depending on where you get them so $40 is a good deal.
What would you do?
