Mine was a M. (melvin?) Poole. It was very inexpensive and was a really nice little stag handled bird and trout knife. Gave it to my dad. I kind of regret doing that.

Robert Parrish Hollow Handle Survival Knife.

Bought in 1983 for $175.00. My wife thought I was insane.

My first deployment with the 101st Airbrone (the day after my honeymoon). I had my First Platoon (ended up with a second), My first wife (still have her) and my first custom knife, nope I don't have it. The good news is I have had a few more since then.

I carried the Parrish for a long time. Until the Battalion I was in deployed to Somalia. No, not with the news crews filiming the Navy Seals coming on to the beach!

Some of you may remember the "We are the World" thing with all the rock stars raising money to buy grain for many African Nations. Well it turns out that all the grain that went to Ethopia, found its way to the former Soviet Union. So Ethopia, came a knockin on Somalia's door and started to take their food.

Anyway we went over there to tell the Ethopian's they were "bad toads"

Anyway before you can deploy anywhere (especially a "live fire" exercise) you have to go through a big inprocessing. You get shots, make sure your personel file is up to date, and you get to see the Lawyers to make sure your Will is in order.
Now there is a confidence enhancement.

Any way this nice young Captain, pointed out to me that my well used Parrish was against the Geneva Convention (because of the saw teeth).

I smiled at him and said, Sir can I take the knife if I promise you that who ever I use it on will not live to file a complaint with the people in Geneva.

He, of course being a non-Infantry type, found no humor. It was then my CO removed from line.

Upon return from Somalia, I had to find a new knife.

It was about that time I read an article in Soldier of Fortune Magainze about this maker down in South Carolina name of Walter Brend.

My first custom knife was an Emerson CQC6, purchased from some man called Les....

It has been downhill from there.

Stan Fujisaka liner lock. Damascus blade, mokume bolsters and colorful giraffe bone handle that looks like mammoth ivory.
