I was just approached by a friend who has a small quanity of walrus ivory which was too cracked for him to carve. Have any of you worked with it and what problems did you run into?
Also, what is the approximate value of it?

What I have used has been fairly easy to work, just keep it from getting too hot when you are cutting and sanding on it.
As far a value goes it is usually HIGH. Some of it will sell for $200 a pound or more, but I never paid that for any I have used. Makes a beautiful handle in my opinion.
