Anyone know what JT 420 is and how good is it for knife steel? Thanks for any help, Roc

440A, 420hc, 420jt, 420xx are the standard, stampable US/Japan stainless cutlery steels. They are as tough/wear resistant as they dare be and still be stampable with normal production equipment, which means not very. Lots of Chrome, not much carbon. OK for most kitchen knives. They're probably OK for machetes as well, but not much else.
