I stumbled on a steel that I have never heard of before. ZDP 189. I understand that it too is a CPM. Did I read Glenn Waters web stie correctly it only hardens to Rc 67????? and it is only got carbon and chromium in it? Anybody ever used it? Anybody knw where to get it I would like to try some. Is it close to CPM 10 V? Any more info would be greatly appreciated.

a quick search at agrussell.com indicates this stuff has 3%C & 20%Cr. all of the cpm's have varying amounts of other components, as well as less c & cr (10v is 2.45%C & 5.25%Cr), to vary their characteristics. this stuff sounds like stainless cast iron!

I haven't used the steel but it would appear to have an extremely high abrasion resistance but very low toughness. Be ready to buy plenty of belts as I would guess that it is terribly hard on them.
