View Full Version : A1 and 02

I recently aquired an Upswept Skinner, made by Bob Jones. The Guy I got it from, said that it either had A1 or 02 Steel. It sure holds an edge. Which is the better Steel? About the same...? :)

I had the Steel Numbers reversed, and edited them to make them right. ;)

By the looks of it, I'd say it's the oil dried 01 Tool Steel. Which in my book is better than A2 and D2 air dried Steels... :D

A2 is a high impact steel and doesn't hold an edge all that well, unless you're in a situation that is rough on an edge. D2 holds an edge very well, but isn't as tough. O1 falls about in the middle, IMO.

Ok Jerry, I have a Fillet Knife with D2... and a Skinner with 01. They both have a very sharp edge. Was'nt sure which was a higher end Steel... Thanks for the input!
