I just finished a dagger with a damascus accent (see the display case). After I had etched the damascus I pinned it with some 1/16" stainless pinning material I had handy. After pressing the pins in I still had to file them off and I ended up with some scratches on the damasuc and the pins really stand out. How do you get the pins to disappear and how do you file down the pins without marring the damascus.
Here is a picture to illustrate.

Welcome to the joys of using damascus as an accent piece.

You could try etching the damascus after finishing the pins. Heavy axle grease works as a mask for areas that you do not want to etch.

Just a thought, How about hidden pins?

How would you use hidden pins with a piece of damascus?

Stephen, Use the search, there are quite a few threads that explain it better than I could. ( I wouldn't think that it would be that much different than using hidden pins on a handle)
