Those of you who know me from my earlier days on "another forum" may remember by thoughts on a sterling silver balisong.

Well, although I haven't gotten it (yet), I am still intrigued by the thought. I also think gold inserts in a silver bali would be cool...and mother of pearl, and abalone, and ebony, and buffalo horn and......................

So does anyone have any pictures of any precious metal balisongs?

If so, please post them here.

OR, if anyone has any thoughts on precious metal balis, please post them here.

PEACE

GHEN

I think the notorious arokiem was showing some pics of a small gold balisong he'd had made. I'd be curious to see something like this, although just for the spectacle of it all. :)

Darrel, Ghen'll take 20. Just make them and then bill him, if can't pay up.. you know.. I'll take one for cheap, just as a favour. ;)

I know we settled on German Silver as the metal source, but that was with channel milled bali in mind. With sandwich construction, it's possible to work harden the edges of the handle slabs so that it's a little bit harder.

If there's any left over from Ghen's order, I'll take some cheap as well... :)

how 'bout platinum?
sterling with sandwich construction sounds good. i'm not a metallurgist, but isn't silver rather soft? with sandwich construction the spacer and bushings would provide more rigidity. maybe even silver over a titanium liner would be more rigid, but there are often problems when two metals are in contact (eg bi-metallic corrsion, or different rates of expansion).

This one has a tang pin that is in white gold,..which is hammered.Getting the pin out was pretty simple with a hammer,..then a stock 3mm peice i had laying around.I threaded it through choped off the ends hammered, filed it down then used some cuped burs to round it off.
The hard part was shaping the pin to get it to the right shape so that it feels good in the hand when it's closed.

I want (2) consecutive serial numbers with braze-welded SPAM Blades Darrel :smokin 8o ......

What is the deal with you elitist Harvard guys Jerry ;) ....I may like to have som-a-dem "Uptown" handles, but I'm still fine with SPAM for blade stock. Heck it's all in the heat treat anyway, and I've never tasted any jewelry that was dippable yet....lol. Two minutes on each side at "Mejeum" heat, and my blades are ready to rock!

Onward.. :) I'm writing "The Balisong Collector" himself, to see if he'll post some pictures of his solid Gold Balisong with dice hanging on a rearview mirror..., so hold the thought!

To answer you questions:

The gold used was 10k
any higher karat of gold would be way too soft

Yes,i flip the knife and it is tough.
Haven't had any problems with it so far.

Bi metal is somewhat like a type of mokume in it's raw form(but don't quote me on that).
it's made to be formed and shaped
It would be an intresting material to work with.

Kiem.., I might have missed this way back, but what type of blade steel is in that little guy?

Does it get scratched up in your pocket.., or you carry it in another fashion?

Thanks :)

Kiem.., sorry, I meant that knife you once pictured that was sitting on top of a Jewelry case. I thought is was small..., maybe not?

I wondered if it scratched easily carrying it....or how you carried it to avoid that....

Thanks...
