I just read a quote
that stated more people
are killed by knives
than firearms...

Is this true?

I don't know about the rest of the world, but I do know how to get the info in the US. You can go the the fbi's web site and click reference, uniform crime reports and get details. The latest full is 2001 and can be foundhttp://www.fbi.gov/ucr/01cius.htm (FBI) here. You can see more data than you ever wanted, but the breakdown is like this:

Total murders (2001) 13,752

By Firearms 8,719
Handguns 6,790
Rifles 389
Shotguns 497
unspec 1,043

By Knives 1,796

By personal weapons (hands, fists, feet, etc) 924

They also break this down as to what caused the murder, and by far the highest number for either knives or guns are from arguments (3544 guns, 812 knives), with unspecified as the next highest (1832 guns, 192 knives).

Just a bit of info as put together by your goverment.

Hope this helps,

  I've never heard of anyone being killed by either a gun or a knife. Both are inanimate objects and are incapable of such actions.

I believe that most people who do not die of accident, disease, or old age are killed by other people - criminals, mostly.

Brett,

I agree with you there:D , which is why I included the column about personal weapons (ie fists). I think if you look at the statistics on that page one thing becomes clear, these are not well thought out in the majority, but rather heated arguments or robberies where the criminal is intent on his actions and will kill anyone who gets in his way, be it with a gun, knife, baseball bat, or fists.

What I wanted to get across is bare facts to answer the question, with none of my politics involved.:p
