View Full Version : Congratulations Eric Elson
Les Robertson 04-08-2001, 08:56 PM I just returned from the Canadian Guild Show.
I congratulated him in Canada, I thought I would do the same here.
Eric, received his Voting Membership in the Canadian Knife Makers Guild.
His table display was neat and professional.
Also, he had a nice (and nicely priced) tanto on his table.

dogman 04-08-2001, 09:56 PM I love it when bad kids go good:)
george tichbourne 04-09-2001, 05:19 AM Watch it the kid's head is starting to swell already. OK he is beginning to make a fine knife and is beginning to develop loyal following but he still has to complete school.
Les Robertson 04-09-2001, 07:52 AM George, it's best to heed your own advice. After all wasn't it you, in your advertising who listed yourself as Canada's "premier" knife maker.
Yes, Eric has a lot to learn about making knives. Of course age has nothing to do with it. As very few of us are born with the inate abilty to make knives. Whether you start making knives at age 15 or 55 it still takes years to learn how to make a knife. After that, the world class makers continually work to master their craft and are always seeking ways to improve their work.
Remember, ego is that psychological trait that drives us to be better, to seek challanges, etc. So the word is is generally used out of context by most people. This gives us the courage and drive to gain confidence.
Confidence is what you get after years of training, hard work and practical aplication.
Arrogance, conceit are generally words used by those who lack that confidence and point out faults in others to compensate for that.
So Eric, keep on with what you are doing. An ego is a healthy thing to have, use it to drive yourself to be the best you can be.
I know what I am speaking of, I have a HUGE Ego, just ask my wife and friends.

ERIC ELSON 04-09-2001, 01:59 PM Thankyou Les,
It was really good to meet you in person. I really got a lot of knowledge out of the talk you and Bob gave,I just hope I can put some of it to use!! Also the Awards you presented are great, from the stand point of a new maker it gives me something (else) to aim for.
Watch out because next year Greg is going home on award lighter!!!
I've been working really hard since becoming a probationary member of the CKG to raise the level of my work, continously and consistantly, I am very happy and excited to be a Voting member .
I would have to say Thank you for all the help, encouragement, advice of the members right here on the CKD you guys are first class!!
Paul, I came home 4 lighter -way better than I expected!!!I was happy just being there!!
Dont worry my head isn't getting too big, I know I have a LONG way to go!!!The good thing is it gets shorter every day.
You keep right on plugging along,Little Buddy.
I'm still learning after 20 years.
Just now able to start making what I really want to make, too.
As long as they see the JOY in you're work, you'll do fine.
You are already in the BEST place to learn.
