View Full Version : hows everyones skills with a bali twekermaggio 04-08-2003, 12:52 PM hay just wondering how good with a balisong everyone is. also if anyone has some original manipulations feal free to share. thanks nybble 04-08-2003, 05:37 PM I got mediocre skills. I can do many things, but I only practice intermittently these days and often times to do anything where the knife leaves my hand I'll just default to trainers. I just don't have the time anymore to have a cut up hand, especially since I've started wall climbing. But I love to flip to relieve stress and take my mind off of anything that's bothering me, with a live blade I'll mostly do basics up to twirls - things where one is pretty solidly in control of the knife. ZENGHOST 04-08-2003, 08:11 PM I'm below mediocre. Prior to this year I had only really done basic (very basic) openings and closings. I graduated to some twirls and stuff and maybe a simple aerial occasionally. I need a helluva lot more practice. -Z navajo 04-09-2003, 02:11 PM Fairly decent. Have yet to try the over the shoulder aerial. ExamonLyf 04-09-2003, 10:13 PM Manipulations skills = Very good Knife Fighting Skills = Excellent Ability to not buy more Balisongs = Poor/Non-Existent tonyccw 04-10-2003, 08:50 AM Originally posted by ExamonLyf Manipulations skills = Very good Knife Fighting Skills = Excellent Ability to not buy more Balisongs = Poor/Non-Existent Ditto for me..... Probably weaker on the third item.... ;) 8thsinner 04-13-2003, 03:40 AM Manipulation skills -------I am the best there is Knife fighting--------------whats the point Ability to buy more ------based on my wage And I have loads of custom moves I would guess a number of around 50 at least. Copis 04-13-2003, 08:43 AM Tony and Pete, I am curious about your excellent knife fighting skills. What is your training background? I know Tony has Chi-Na in his family and Pete has a Filipino training background. Anything else about your training that you care to share? Bill tonyccw 04-13-2003, 06:56 PM Originally posted by Copis I know Tony has Chi-Na in his family.... Anything else about your training that you care to share?I did 8 years of Kung Fu (Dragon Claw and Hung Gar's Tiger Claw primary focus), which is where most of my weapons training came from. In my later years, the US Army, the streets of NYC, and other influences, have been added to my personal style. ExamonLyf 04-13-2003, 09:00 PM Originally posted by Copis Tony and Pete, What is your training background? Bill For me.., about 4 years of Hwa Rang Do training prior to the Marine Corps.., and obviously I became more eclectic during my time there. Following that.., I continued to study Hwa Rang Do, but in combination with FMA's that were taught by friends I was partners with in the ownership of a Dojo here in So California. I taught and trained for about 14 years total.., and now I just pop off :)..., it's way more fun... Copis 04-13-2003, 09:15 PM Thanks guys! It seems that nobody talks about fighting skills related to the bali... I have been a student of silat for 3 years and I simply cannot get enough.... Bill ExamonLyf 04-13-2003, 10:21 PM Originally posted by Copis Thanks guys! I have been a student of silat for 3 years and I simply cannot get enough.... Very cool Bill.., Silat is certainly one of the more practical forms.., and very task specific.. :) Where in Colorado are you anyway......9200 feet! Wow! I'm so jealous! Must be gorgeous.... Copis 04-14-2003, 08:23 AM Pete, My wife and I live off highway 119 near Nederland CO. The general area is slightly southwest of Boulder. Guro Inosanto reffers to the Denver area as Silat territory. The deThouars Silat family moved here in the early 60s. Bill ExamonLyf 04-14-2003, 12:01 PM Wow.., really nice country up there. I've passed through, and been to that Lake (Eldora maybe?)..., something like that. Terrific place to live... ZENGHOST 04-14-2003, 12:24 PM Copis...a wee bit OT, but, you a Broncos fan? Copis 04-14-2003, 01:31 PM Zenghost, I dont follow sports. Pete, You got it! Eldora is the old mining town at the bottom of the Eldora ski area. You are probably thinking of Barker reservoir next to Nederland. The mountains are not for everybody, but they are heaven for my wife and I. Bill Icon of Sin 04-14-2003, 02:41 PM I like to think I'm Decent :) Check out my videos in my signature below 8thsinner 04-14-2003, 05:43 PM Icon I think decent is a little bit of an understatement, Your pretty #### good in my books. BaliXpert 04-18-2003, 11:55 PM i'd say im an intermidiat right now... i can throw and do all that stuff... I'm better then everyone else i know but i've seen way better on the net... my only custom move that i can think of is a backhand throw where i start with doing a simple backhand opening but instead of twisting the handles i let it flip over my backhand where i let it glide to my index finger area (roughly on my backhand) and then flick the wrist to send the bali in the air and catch open... lol... even though i cut myself twice in a row tonight... heh... not my night i guess... i had to put away my jaguar and get out my old 5$ pawn-shop cheapy that couldnt cut butter:(... Icon of Sin 04-19-2003, 08:32 AM i had to put away my jaguar and get out my old 5$ pawn-shop cheapy that couldnt cut butter... You mean the Jaguar isnt the $5 pawnshop cheapy that couldnt cut butter? :) OK bad joke, but that sounds lie one hell of a move you have their, get it on flim one of these days. Blackjack_21 04-20-2003, 11:11 PM Ever hear the phrase "room for improvement"? :D:D That's me. sjtinkerer 04-21-2003, 03:36 PM Yeah B-21, exactly!!! There's ALWAYS someone better, you just may not have met them yet! Keep at it everybody... Blackjack_21 04-22-2003, 09:17 PM Trust me, there's PLENTY of guys ouut there that're better than me. I'm near intermediate, I'd say. I don't have a routine, and I don't go freestyle. I'm juust trying to get the moves I know down so I can try other stuuff... twekermaggio 04-23-2003, 01:58 AM ive done some freestyle but the thing i see alot all looks the same (no offense to anyone). i think if ppl are going to do freestyle they might as well let ppl see something they never saw befor. make ppl remember you. ExamonLyf 05-13-2003, 08:40 PM Originally posted by sjtinkerer Yeah B-21, exactly!!! There's ALWAYS someone better, you just may not have met them yet! Keep at it everybody... Spoken with wisdom sjtinkerer...., in fact.., the 3 best folks I've ever scene manipulating Balisongs don't take part on any sort of Knife Forum.... penguinva 05-14-2003, 06:48 AM What skills? Wish I had the strength & coordination to develop some skills - my Balis are just one of the tools/means I'm using to get the strength & coordination back so I can develop some of the skills - have to say that working with my Balis are the most fun of any of the Rehab I do - helps when you can do something positive and have fun at the same time! :) :D Bill fleataxi 05-17-2003, 05:17 PM Skills...What Skills?
