how far should i take the finish on a ss blade before i send it out to be heat treated? Thx:evil

That's hard to say. Some types of steel get more scaling and pitting during the heat treat process than other types. No matter what type of steel or heat treat process is being used some additional finish work is always needed after the HT process.

Some guys like to finish to 2000 grit before HT while other, like me, don't even grind the bevels until after HT. The majority probably fall in the middle somewhere by finsihing to 220 or 400 grit before HT...
