Any needle files will cut into your long they hold up is another thing. As I've already mentioned, if the steel's been tempered, you're like to ruin one or two files in the process...comes with the territory.

I was getting surprisingly decent mileage out of Radio Shack's package of needle files...I bought some Grobet files from MSC recently...they are considerably more expensive but they offer a cleaner cut and are clearly better tempered as they are holding up longer than any others I've had.

Like anythging else it's a trade-off...spend more and it'll last longer.

PS. After grinding off that safety side, if you "freshen" it up from time to time you'll be able to maintain a sharper and cleaner cut for a longer period of time.
