Folks,

First off, a hello to all, as this is my first posting! :D Nice group of collectors, dealers, makers and individuals hanging around here! I hope to learn and add to the mix!

Hey, I'm looking for a good way to catalog my knives with a database/photo program--if available. There seems to be quite a few software programs, but not tailored exclusively for knife collections. And maybe I don't need one this specific.

Type, blade materials, handle, who, what, how much, etc... these are the things I'd like to track. Picture files would be a plus.

I got the A.G. Russell notebooks, but I was hoping for something that I could quickly add in my pics 'on the keyboard'.

What do you know?

A Database or a Spreadsheet would work, merge into a Word document with pix.

Jim - welcome to the CKD

The answer might be easier to find than you think. I'm not sure about adding photos, but Microsoft Excel works very good for things like this. You can sort according to various columns (e.g. from your most expensive knife to your least, or from the smallest knife to the biggest knife, etc). One thing you can try, if you have a digital camera and a CD burner is to take pictures of the knives and store them on CD-ROM. For insurance purposes you might want hard copy photos as well but place those in a separate location (fire proof safe, maybe safety deposit box). This will help you properly document everything just in case....

Hope this helps

Excel can do it and Access can definitely do it. You can add pics to the Excel spreadsheet and it will be easier to work with.

There is always the web site solution.
