Butch Vallotton makes a hidden release DA folder called the Chameleon. To fire it automatically, press down in the middle of one of the Kraton inlays on the handle. He also made a version that fired when you press down on the pocket clip. Butch's asking price for this knife is $350, which as far as custom DA folders go, is rather inexpensive. The handle scales of this knife are some sort of molded thermoplastic as opposed to aluminum or titanium (which explains the low price). Is this the knife you are looking for?

I can't think of anyone else that makes the release like that except Vallotton. Microtech made a production version of the Chameleon, but it pulls just as much or more money than the custom version. Figure those odds:)

Another option you might want to look at is a scale release.

Kurt,

Here are a couple of "availables". Look in the Blackstocks collection for the Vallotton's.

Murray Sterling makes a neat automatic, which looks like a traditional lockback knife. The auto-release button is the lock back release. Works both functions. Very slick and innovative. Check him out at his site:

Murray also usually shows at the Winston Salem Show in September. He makes beautiful folders.

Thanks Jerry, hopefully my computer inexpertise will not reflect on Murray's expertise.
