I hope all of you have seen the slimline boot knife in the display case. This knife I think is perfect for scrimshaw but since I will not be keeping the knife should I sink some money into getting it scrimmed or leave it as a canvas for the buyer. I have never had a knife scrimmed so this is completely virgin territory for me. If I do get it done am I likely to get my money back out of it when I sell it?
Thanks
Steve

Steve,
I saw the knife, and it looks great!
Personally, I wouldn't put the money into scrim on micarta. The scrim work could be the best, but unless its on ivory, you'll be hard pressed to get your investment out of it. Ideally, small diameter pins or screws look better with scrim, as opposed to mosaic pins.
I think this knife looks good as is. Nice, clean and the filework is enough.
I'd leave it to your customer to decide if further decoration is required.
That's just my opinion........ :D

I'd leave it to your customer to decide if further decoration is required. i agree. and if it were me, i'd also save the cost of a scrim job for ivory rather than micarta - unless you want to try to do it yourself! practice on some scrap first :)
