Folks,

I was at a great Xmas party last night, and it included many, many friends and aquaintances whom I respect and admire. Of course, I carefully selected a couple of my Customs to bring with me--'just in case'. :)

As it happened, I got into conversation with my Minister and his wife. They know me quite well, but didn't know about my collecting knives passion. Well, I carefully pulled out a Louis VanDer Walt folder with incredible filework, as well as my Kansei Matsuno beautifully shaped mastepiece. Both had stunning features.

As can be predicted, Lori (the minister's wife), was very apprehensive about these sharp 'weapons'. Frank (the minister), was all ears. I carefully showed them the basics of opening and closing a liner-lock, and pointed out the features of each of the knives. I mentioned that these are carefully-made pieces of sculpture that use artist's imagination and craftsman's talents to perfect.

By now a small group was gathering round. I passed them out for display and to try to open and close them with one hand (it's harder than we think....) Small steps first.

Lori, now submitting to the challenge, took my offer and did the motion, and then looked it over very carefully. Frank struggled, but finally 'got it'. He was so pleased. So did the others.

By the end of the evening I had to reshow them to a number of folks who had heard of the interest from the group. Frank and Lori said there was a 'magic' about my enthusiasm that is not-often found in most people's day-to-day lives and interests. It trancended their aprehensions. They were both very impressed and thankful for the display.

We are very fortunate indeed! What's your story?
