View Full Version : Can you trick this thing? Bob Warner 02-18-2003, 08:55 AM Go here and see if this thing can read your mind. I figured out how it was done, and wrote up my own version for the members to try out. Much to my surprise, everyone was amazed, but nobody wanted to know "how" it was done. They liked being amazed. There are actually only 10 significant positions in the chart. All the rest is just filler. The positions are: 0, 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, and 81 These positions will always have matching symbols on each new iteration. The symbol by these numbers will always be your "mystery" symbol. Thats' the reason the psychic game has to refresh and randomly switch the symbols after each iteration. Otherwise, you would quickly see the pattern and eventually figure it out. Here's the mathematical reason that it works. Rather than going through all 100 positions, let's just do the positions 99 through 90. (99) __ 9+9 = 18 ... 99-18 = 81 (98) __ 9+8 = 17 ... 98-17 = 81 (97) __ 9+7 = 16 ... 97-16 = 81 (96) __ 9+6 = 15 ... 96-15 = 81 (95) __ 9+5 = 14 ... 95-14 = 81 (94) __ 9+4 = 13 ... 94-13 = 81 (93) __ 9+3 = 12 ... 93-12 = 81 (92) __ 9+2 = 11 ... 92-11 = 81 (91) __ 9+1 = 10 ... 91-10 = 81 (90) __ 9+0 = 9 .... 90-9 = 81 So, no matter what number you start with in this group, once you do the math, the answer will always be 81. By placing the same symbols in positions 0, 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, and 81, you will always know what the person's "secret" symbol is. You are actually forcing them to choose one of your pre-placed symbols. :D Jamey Saunders 02-18-2003, 02:43 PM Good description, Terry. Kinda reminds me of the site that shows you five cards, Jacks, Queens, and Kings, then has you select one. When you click "Next" your card is gone. What you don't notice is that none of the cards from the first screen are on the second screen. No matter which one you pick, it won't be on the second screen. I prefer personal sleight of hand, kinda like what David Blaine does. Magic that's right in front of your face, were you can see that there aren't any strings, but you still can't figure out how it's done. That's what I like. I have learned some of those card tricks, and they can really make people back up in a hurry. I was on a plane trip with my wife, my brother, and a friend of his. While we were sitting in the terminal in Atlanta, I pulled out the deck of cards and did a couple of tricks for my brother's friend. He wouldn't come within three feet of me for the rest of the trip. If I was driving the rental car, he was sitting in the back on the passenger's side. If my wife drove, he was in the back on the driver's side. I think I really spooked him.:D Bob Warner 02-18-2003, 06:00 PM You guys take the fun out of everything. Actually, I was working on it in my spare time and had figured out that 0,9,18, etc...... were always the same. I just had not gotten around to doing the math Terry shows. I guess I should have figured it out BEFORE posting it here. SharpByCoop 02-18-2003, 07:12 PM I haven't read the answers you guys are talking about. But it sure has me stumped!!! Back in a minute for the explanation... ##### AHA!!! I've been had! ;) Great post, Bob! And a great explanation, Professor!
