Alex, I really think a fourm like this would be great!
I KNOW that there are many young aspiring knife knutts(collector/maker)out in lurker land that would jump on a place that they could call home. Many of these potential buyers/future makers get discouraged by the goings on in other places and feel that they will be ignored,or not taken seriously (the CKD is the only place that has never made me feel this way ). I have found the CKD to be a friendly place and if I can bring other young people into this great comunity I Think it could benifeit us all.
I would be willing to moderate such a forum, and I some Ideas on how to go about it. If this sounds like something that could be done please let me know!!

Thanks,
Eric

Eric, I don't want to discourage a good idea, but we have the Newbie's area to cover that. Since we are such a small community as it is, I don't want to spread things too thin. As we grow, we can develop more focused forum areas. As you said, no one is ever made to feel unwelcome or stupid here. When I first started making knives, I always waited for someone else to ask the "Stupid" question I wanted to ask. Of course, it was never a stupid question.
If you like, you might want to start a thread calling to newbies and lurkers out to say hello. I was also thinking about working on some tutorials directed at the very fundamentals of knifemaking like profiling a blade froma template, or drilling holes, or making the initial bevel grind on blade. It is stuff we all take for granted now, but for someone who has never seen another knifemaker work, it might be very important. Drilling a hole might seem very easy, but how many of us have had a hole air harden and destroy a bit right as we are drilling?

Now, I know a new forum you do need to develop...the Canadian Knifemaker's Guild forum:)
