CKDadmin 03-22-2001, 01:24 PM Guy's, I get a ton of e-mail from buyers off the main site about the knife they just purchased from our makers and their experience with our system. We also have a situation in the making where knifemakers who get these same types of letters personally have asked me if it's OK to post the comments. #1 They are proud and #2 they think it might motivate everyone to see what the end result of a client's experience actually is when dealing with a CKD caliber type of professional.
I tend to agree for the most part, but I'd like to ask everyone if we should open up a board where registered members can post their experiences, both good and bad about business transactions that are conducted concerning anything and any one of us. I realize that this would tend to scare the hell out of most people upon first inspection, but I tend to think that we should all be accountable for our actions, in the event we fail to deliver the goods that are promised to someone.
The upside is that we can use it to highlight the great jobs that we do, which has been my experience 100% from the knives related to CKD transaction sales.
Of course, we would need to make some guidelines, but what are your opinions, before I propose this to the Dogman?
Alex
Don Cowles 03-22-2001, 02:46 PM I'm in favor. The more open and above board we can be, the better.
ansoknives 03-22-2001, 03:08 PM Yes go for it....I agree with Don!
JerryO13 03-22-2001, 04:43 PM I tend to agree, but ....
If all posts are nauseatingly positive it will seem self serving.
If it turns into a hack and slash (or slander and libel) type deal like I see at other forums.
It would have to be very, very, very carefully moderated
If this seems negative, sorry, what can I say I'm a glass is half empty kind of guy, it's my New York cynicism coming to the fore.
If this can be avoided, then why not
dogman 03-22-2001, 08:59 PM We can call it the "Feedback Forum" or something like that. I am neutral on it. I don't think we will get the type of senseless slamming that seems to occur on BF's Good, Bad and Ugly forum. Perhaps we should consider expanding the Collector Forum to provide an outlet for ataaboys and such, since it is the collector feedback we are looking for.
BCB27 03-22-2001, 09:52 PM I like the idea, however, I have to agree with Jerry for the reasons he stated. I will add one other reason, and this is just my opinion. I think most experienced makers and collectors are hesitant to give honest criticism of your work unless they know you well. I don't blame them really though as most people are reluctant to say things that may inadvertantly discourage someone.

ansoknives 03-23-2001, 03:24 AM I think it would be hard to reach the bashings going on on BF.
Reason is over there it is deals with private persons over used knive, deals with various knifedealers and finally makers.
Here it would be strictly knifemakers if I understand it correctly. I have yet to meet a disonest knifemaker. Ofcourse you can get disapointed in a knifedeal but within reason this should be ok to post this. I aggre with Jerry that this should not be a place to only pad the makers back. We need to know what we do wrong to make the next better!
CKDadmin 03-23-2001, 04:28 AM I think what everyone is saying is right on target. The point made by Jens is worth noting again. We're about custom knives ( actually "direct from maker or owner" ). I see the need to keep it heavily moderated, but I don't see it as such a prolific topic as to create enough threads every day to keep it worth reading.
I'm leaning now to what Dog suggests ... I think we should pull it into Jerry's control, because it is collector realted more than anything else. Jerry also has the temperment to keep it civil, but we have to give him the ultimate gavel to do it right.
Actually, we need to collectively re-examine a number of boards on the forum, even considering some new ones if someone has some really dynamite ideas. Some of the ones that I originally moved over to this system, probably should have died during the transition. I hate to look at a board that doesn't have action in it to go check out. Some of my announcement boards are pretty weak because I don't have the time to deal with them and still have fun over here. I do want to setup a board for general announcements to the membership, but I want it to be open for everyone to use, in case theres a need to speak to everyone at once.
Someone jump in here and let's make a final decision about the customer feedback issue. I have a ton of stuff to throw in it from CKD buyers, but I want you all to figure out how you want it structured, policy wise, and then I'll back it up 100% from a Administrator standpoint. Bob runs the forum, so he can work it out as to what we're officially allowing, as I'm more focused on the front end operation of the main web site.
I just thought it needed to be brought up. Some of the letter's I have were well earned by the makers and CKD system and I know how hard it is to please a customer these days. It's a just reward, in my opinion! Someone earned it ...
Alex
CKDadmin 03-23-2001, 04:32 AM PS --- There will be no need to worry about bashings going on here ... it will never happen! At least not twice by the same person!
You all have my guarantee on that.
dogman 03-23-2001, 11:53 AM One board...the "Send Your Knives, Materials, Equipment and Money to Bob" forum. Moderated by Bob. If you don't make a contribution, you get banned.
JerryO13 03-23-2001, 02:24 PM Banned as in Ray Banned, I have a pair of those somewhere.
The thing that I really like about this site is it's level of maturity. I have never ever had to lock or delete a thread, and the only time I've ever edited a post was to help someone with their links.
Thanks for having that much faith in me, I appreciate it. So bring those letters on down to the collecting forum, we could use some more action over there anyway. Hopefully any negative comments about a particular makers work, will include suggestions as to how to improve it. That way it's not just this and that is bad, it will help you build a better mousetrap.
I LIKE IT, ALEX.
Go for it,man.
They can't print nothing we can't bleep,right?
