I might jsut be me but do we need a forum for general knifemakers questions?? Example: I have a question about how well I could put my stamp in Talonite. I know Don has worked with it so I could put it in Fit and finish. Or in Johnson´s space. The bladesmiths has their forum and the folderguy has theirs. Howabout a form for us grinders? Or is it not needed?

It is not a neewbees question either so where to put it??

Jens, how about General Knife Related Discussions? That's sort of a catch-all for anything that doesn't seem to fit into any other place.

Regarding stamping the talonite, I will try to do some this evening and let you know how it comes out. It is about 46-47 RC, so it's not soft. I'll post it here.

Hi, Jens.
The General Forum is just the place to ask that type of question. There is no real wrong place to ask the question since every forum is for knifemakers.

Jens- I stamped a piece of talonite this afternoon- it worked, but the stamp was not very deep. Nothing like the depth of your mark on your knives. Still, enough to identify your work. Go for it!

Can the stamp be damaged? I would hate to ruin my only stamp in the most buisy season

I can't offer a guarantee, but whoever made your stamp could probably advise you on the potential adverse effects of stamping 47RC material- one whack didn't seem to bother my stamp at all, but I didn't put it though multiple exercises either. You could opt to electro-chemical etch your Talonite blades using a battery charger and one of the simple typewriter stencils...

I think I will take it to an engraver to put in my name. It wont cost to much. This way I wont risk the stamp and I would get it deep like I want it.
