What I meant to ask was I have seen multi-color damascus by John Guffstonson and Barry Gallagher I think. Wondered if anybody had info on this.

johan uses a chemical treatment that he is loath to share. i do not know what barry uses.
i've read that some folks use baking enamels from brownell's.

Try posing this question on Ed Caffrey's Forum. You might also check out Ed's Web Site. He has a bit on coloring. I'm sure you will see more when Ed gets back from his military tour.

You'll find that those that have figured it out are more than happy to keep it to themselves.

Personally, I have had success with nitre blue, hot blue, and heat blueing. None to the degree the above mentioned makers have had. I have had "close" results with a combination of heat blueing in combination with hot blueing. Just experiment and see what you come up with.

On heat blueing... I have use a torch, but have found better results with my HT oven. It's more repeatable and consistent. Try from 400 to 700 degrees for a start.
