I have been making knives
part time since 1993. I started by making a knife for
a friend and have never stopped. I went from making knives
with nothing but files and sandpaper to making them with
many tools, most of which are home built.
I started with stock removal
knifemaking and have progressed to forging and making
Damascus. Currently I make most of my knives with Damascus
because I think it makes for a better and more attractive
knife. So far all of my knives are fixed blade design
but folders will be coming soon.
I am a sole author knifemaker. I do everything on my
knives start to finish, including heat-treating the
blades. I do this so I know the knife and what capabilities
it has. I test every knife to set standards and destroy
a test knife frequently to ensure my process is working
properly.
I have a regular job that keeps me behind a desk most
of the week. On weekends, I get to go to the shop and
do what "I" want to do. I like to help others
learn the art of knifemaking and also help them by sharing
my information on building the tools that I have built.
I would rather make a tool than buy it if I have the
ability to do so. There is a lot of satisfaction in
creating something yourself. Anyone can go out and buy
something, not everyone can make it themselves.
I am a member of the Texas Knifemakers and Collector's
Association and the North Texas Blacksmiths Association.
