At the moment, I am a part time
knife maker specializing in liner lock folders. I also
make a fair number of moderately fancy chef's knives
and cleavers and the occasional fishing or hunting knife.
Most of my knives are made by stock removal but I am
starting to forge a few. My favorite stainless steel
is BG-42 which I use mostly on folders and some fixed
blades. I do my own heat treating and cryogenic processing.
For folders, I favor synthetic handle materials because
they allow me to make my knives very thin and light
weight. Carbon fiber, G-10 in several colors, and various
phenolic resins are commonly found on my folders.
The handles of my kitchen knives and hunting knives
are usually made of natural materials. The majority
of these knives will have beautiful, highly figured
woods used in the handles such as ironwood, various
burls, and some of the incredible Australian hardwoods
that I import.
Each knife I make is unique. I work from patterns
that I have made for some models so you will see that
knives of the same model will look very similar to
each other. But, each part is hand made and individually
fitted - even on knives that appear identical the parts
are not interchangeable.
In addition to the usual guarantee against defects
in workmanship and materials (but not abuse) my knives
are accompanied by a personally signed Certificate
of Origin . This document details the date of completion,
the materials used, and any special characteristics
the knife might have. The document also has my signature
on it which means it carries my standard guarantee
of satifaction: If you are not satisfied with your
knife when you receive it - for any reason - return
it unused and in the condition it was shipped for a
full refund. Period.
